1990 Mk2 Uno turbo ie
So where to begin with yet another Uno turbo under my wing, ive had around 12 or so of these italian basket cases both Mk1 & Mk2's which i prefer tbh.
I should really know better with these cars as they hide and indeed boast so many issues not least the main culprit being rust rust and more rust!
Anyway its too late ive bought this Red Mk2 ;D so on we go, I stumbled apon its existance on another forum where a passing comment was made regarding the storage of it in a garage for 10 years infact not been taxed since 2001.
The good bits and there are many beleive it or not are as follows.
Its very much un-molested which means no bleed valves and no open cone filters in the engine bay,OEM exhaust too, it is as was intended by Fiat.
It does however benefit from having new Koni Shocks and springs fitted to lower the hideous standard ride height but for me still sits a little too high so i will be changing the springs at some point.
Also it has new calipers, discs and pads fitted all round again so a nice money saver for me as i will surely need all the extra pennies i can get
The car hasnt been in the hands of some chav like most have been these days so to bring her back to its former glory will be enjoyable.
All the interior is present except the two rear door cards however i hope to have sourced some at the weekend plus a new drivers door as this one is soooooo rotten its about to turn into dust!
Right plans are as follows ive already done a full service on it including, plugs, leads, rotor arm, fuel filter, oil filter & oil, new fuel pump as the other was duff, air filter, dizzy cap just waiting on pre pump filter to arrive from Italy.
Next up is to fit the new handbrake cables and get that working, brakes have been bled and now its onto the clutch being hydrolic the slave cylinder has given up the ghost so a new one is on order.
Now on inspection ie jacked up and having a poke about its going to need both sides welding plus the rear arches welded aswell then the floor rubbed down and fully treated with a ton of wax oil.
Once the welding has been recitified then i will seek a full re-paint and then hopefully it will be some where near to how i want it 8-)
This is how she was, storred up in a garage ooop north.
And on my drive......
Obviously missing its alloys so thought i would put my Punto GT alloys and bin the steels until i source some oem jobbies
A sneeky peek of the new suspension, discs, pads and calipers although for some reason have been painted by Stevie Wonder they are horrid so will be rubbing down and painting black or silver
Although a filthy engine bay its completly original, standard boost pressure too
Filthy interior continues the theme
Other side sporting the rotting door
Some of the floor that needs attention
Rear turret although rusty is not beyond repair so thats a bonus, the boot floor is pefect though all around the seams is bang on!
Ive been beavering away cleaning the interior and engine bay up so will bang some pics of my progress thus far on that front in a while too...

Cor its load better than thought it would be Matt
Looks quite straight considering how it's been stored, you know, what with a bleedin tool box balanced on the roof
No sunroof, bonus !
Did you manage to purchase either pair of Tempra alloys ?

Im working on that set you sent me the link to so hopefully that will come good pal.
A few more pics of the cleaning mission haha
Started with the minging seat, drivers by far the worst
Bit of foam and scrubbing.......
and much better
Deep soak of the dash, this was caked in dirt ect
and then onto the engine bay starting at the wings and turrets ect

That seat came out well mate always said they are heard wearing in the Mk2's, but now very forgiving !!!
Thinking about it being laid up for so long, it's only really done 10 years worth of service, how many miles has it don Matt ??

Yeah still not 100% the seat but much better though, unfortunetly it didn't come with any service history so I'm going to start a new book for it, she's on around 80k mate.Unograle wrote:That seat came out well mate always said they are heard wearing in the Mk2's, but now very forgiving !!!

Plans are to restore and make good again as close to oem spec as poss tbh, no lairy paint jobs or cut front bumper for IC's just visually how Fiat intended with a few choice mods added and possibly some mild tuning.

Hello mate, i havnt actually driven the car with the GT rims on it as yet, but i would think it should clear fine also mine isnt slamed as yet plus the Koni's are adjustable so can play with the settings but you could shave your bumper a little to clear the rims mate.

Re: 1990 Mk2 Uno turbo ie
My clutch slave cylinder arrived today from Euro carparts as my clutch pedal is as limp as a dick.
Problem is the fecking fluid pipe that screws into the cylinder is propper welded into it so im worried it will sheer off with a spanner, have soaked it in wd40 over night will have a look tomorow.
Fingers crossed i can actually move the car at the wkend
And the new jobbie

If that don't work Matt, swab the area with a malt vinegar soaked piece cotton wool on offending area, that's almost full proof if left overnight...
Roughly 16p per bottle from Morrison's, can't go wrong really

Excellent work mate! Nice to see you in another one.
It will come up lovely in the red when it's all clean!
Evo looks tasty on the TE37's! (How much are they really to run? I guess alot but I'm looking into Jap stuff for a bit of fun)

Re: 1990 Mk2 Uno turbo ie
Looking good mate
One question though,is that front gearbox mount/bracket on the right way?
I always mount it on the outside, unless maybe the mk2's are different.

Re: 1990 Mk2 Uno turbo ie
Managed abit more on the old girl at the weekend, got the new clutch lined up and fitted then put the gearbox back on bled the system i now have a clutch pedal
Also collected some bits and bobs aswell, a replacement headlight, 2 x new wings, front and rear strut braces and full stainless Scorpion exhaust including down pipe complete with hard as nails 4" tail pipe haha
Couldnt really get to the fooking down pipe nuts as the drive shaft is right in way so took the inlet manifold off to make things a little easier and to have a look at the exhaust manifold/turbo while i was at it.
New down pipe and elbow ready to go back on
Noticed this split hose on the inlet mani, anyone know what it does?
While the inlet mani was off i set about tidying the dirty bastard up!
and after a de-grease, jet wash and a polish its on its way to looking repectable, going to paint the fuel rail black and clean the injectors up aswell.
