Rear brake caliper upgrade Golf GTI/VR6
I've got a set of golf vr6 Rear brakes calipers that I'd like to fit. I think they are the same as the gti. I know that some one on here has fitted the gti on there mk2 so are they just a bolt on job?
Can I still use the Uno turbo disc, pads and hand brake cable.
some pic would be good as well.
Thanks Ben

Yeah i used mk3 golf gti calipers, straight fit, using the uno discs pads , handbrake cable etc
The pistons are bigger so you will need to fit a brake proportioning valve as the rear wheels lock up too easy otherwise!

Rich,
Do you think the rears will still lock up easily for me as i run Coupe 4 pot brembos up front? Or will it balance out alright?

Ah might be ok then as mine have standard fronts on my mk2
The White mk1 has Brembo fronts, standards on the back i think not sure and it also have the valve!
They are quite straightforward to fit

Thanks Rich, did you remove the old proportioning valve? I was going to fit the new one in its place if so.

Thanks, think I will get mine from them. Did you remove the old one? I'm thinking of putting mine where the original valve sits.

Yeah i removed the weight balancing bias, as it was useless after striping the interior weight out of the car!
The mk2 i have it popping through the bulkhead near the master cylinder so i can adjust it from inside the car, the Mk1 racecar has it set up where the passenger seat was, next to a plumbed in fire extinguisher! so it could be adjusted mid race!

Re: Rear brake caliper upgrade Golf GTI/VR6
I have upgraded my rear brakes to 240mm discs and alloy rear calipers off a punto gt3,
dont think the pistons are any bigger but the calipers feel like they are a third of the weight and bigger discs 227 vs 240mm

Do they bolt stray on Mark ? I've spent around £80 on the recon of these breaks and ready to fit now. Pic to come soon.

Re: Rear brake caliper upgrade Golf GTI/VR6
you just need a different caliper mounting bracket to fit the 240mm discs,
punto gt3 alloy rear calipers are a straight fit

Tbh I'm only fitting these because my hand break is so shit it only justs go's throw the mot.
I have had them reconditioned and they worked for a couple of mouth then stop.

Re: Rear brake caliper upgrade Golf GTI/VR6
same as me handbrake failed the mot everytime. apparently the gt3 calipers have a much better handbrake mechanism on the caliper.
I did think about keeping the drums pull the handbrake and you could lock the wheels lol
240mm gt3 discs and calipers on my mk1

Re: Rear brake caliper upgrade Golf GTI/VR6
Rich, do your calipers look like mine as im having trouble fitting them?
The dics is hitting the caliper carrier, also had to remove one of the bolts on the carrier mounting bracket and the pads are not sitting right on the carrier because of the nipple on the pad.
Im now begining to think that they're not the same but when i cross referece them it come up with the GTI and VR6 MK3 was the same.

I would grind off that nipple, I had to do that with mine,
if you want to fit 240mm rear discs the caliper mounting brackets are available here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fiat-Seicento-Cinquecento-Rear-Disk-Brake-Conversion-Kit-/291310504210?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model%3ASeicento&hash=item43d3758912
