as most of you know i'm going to fit my spare engine in that's done 55,000 miles. my question is do i fit new bearings and rings in or would it be ok to just use as it is. i don't know how long it's been sat in the shed before i bought it.

you could turn the engine over by the crank pulley nut to check if it's sloppy, or seized. It's hard to explain sloppy, but easy when you compare the feel of 2 of the same.

You'll need a big socket set lol.

Grab hold of the crank pulley, face on, and pull and push it away from you. If you get more than a few mm movement then I'd at least inspect the shells. It'd be a shame to bolt it all back together then lose the bottom end
