What turbo? Empty What turbo?

Got a Mk1 as my "daily". Lightly tuned with a 2.25" single box exhaust, flowed/ported head, go faster cam that I can't remember the specs for that sucks all my low end torque, and boost switchable between 7 and 14psi. Am thinking about doing a ball bearing turbo and an aftermarket ECU into it (Link G4+ Atom) along with some bigger injectors aiming to run around 18psi all day with maybe a bit more switchable or smart modern ECU stuff. I don't have a specific power figure in mind or anything just a bit more go and to pull lower down and for further up.

I have a line on a couple GT28r in good condition and price but worried they'll be too big and the added lag will negate any gains from being BB. Anyone that knows their stuff able to give some advice? Am I better sticking to GT25r sizes? Also, anyone know if the GT25/28 turbos bolt straight onto Mk2 manifolds or will i need to fab something?

I have a gt2554r on my mk1, made peak power 233bhp, but its laggy dont hit full boost 22psi til nearly 5k, its a awesome turbo but imo you need a gt3 1.4 engine to get acceptable spool, garrett recommend minimum 1.6l engine

gt28r is too big and will be very laggy, I have a friend who has a punto gt with a t25 with a .48 housing and its quick spooling with lots of torque and made 190bhp he fitted a gt2560r aka gt28r but he couldnt stand the lag and the delay between gear changes so re fitted the t25,

imo unless your going for big power stick to a hybrid turbo or a t25 with a .49 housing because the lag makes the car slower,

Looking at a HKS 2530r. Seems to fit the bill? Buying turbos is hard...

I would stick to garrett turbos they are easy to fit,

a t25 with a .49 exhaust housing would be good fast spool lots of torque but would limit the overall top end power,

or you could go down the td04 route, leigh has one on his mini and it made big power 230bhp,
