Sprint/Hillclimb/Road Car
Here is a photographic log of my Uno Turbo Sprint/Hillclimb/Road Car.
My first UnoT was this black Mk1 Antiskid (which must mean that the brakes are so rubbish you cant skid! Haha!) (Nice hair) (2002)
Unfortunately, this black car had been poorly looked after and had issues I couldn't solve or afford to have fixed so I replaced the engine with a 1372 from a local car that had been crashed.
So, having driven the car with its new heart for what felt like a short time I managed to put it on its roof...long story but the short of it is, don't use your mobile while driving!! Sorry, no photos of the broken car.
Here are a few photos of the car once I had rebuilt it into its new £50 shell.
In 2006 I moved to Vienna to work and my Uno went into storage. I bought this and drove out to Austria.
In 2007 I returned to Wales and sold my S2 in order to buy a Pickup for work (sad day). Now driving a pickup around I started to want for my Uno so decided to take it out of storage to restore it properly this time.
From the photos the grey one doesn't look to bad, but with all the welding that it needed and cost of a respray I started to look for a fresh shell that didn't need anything, or very little. I found this on ebay.
I think it had 27,000 miles on the clock

Vern,
Already done it, this is back to front thread so many more photos to add. It's always under development too.
At present I'm building a close ratio gearbox from other Fiat boxes and some straight cut gears from a racing Alfa 156 of the mid 90's.
Yeah, pair of beauties weren't they!

Re: Sprint/Hillclimb/Road Car
Damn i can see your location on your profile!
No I'm in Brighton , i'd like a go at hillclimbs, i'm guessing they are more expensive than trackdays, having to have the car MSA logged , in date helmets and all that . I use Harry's laptimer app on the iphone which has all tracks and logs your lap speed via GPS so your just racing against yourself, good fun though

Re: Sprint/Hillclimb/Road Car
Ha!
Yeah, its quite expensive as you don't get much track time but its really good fun and generally very friendly people.
Learning to drive on the narrow lanes in rural Wales is the perfect training ground for Sprint/Hillclimb, I'm not really into the idea of wide open track (unless I had an R8 or something similar). A narrow track I would be interested in. With the FD ratio I'm going for in my gearbox build probably wont suit the track.

Re: Sprint/Hillclimb/Road Car
So, I had to build a shed in which to work on the cars.
Here are a couple of the red one the day after I bought it, trying the wheels for size.
Trying to keep them dry before the shed was finished.
Walls on and both in.
Starting to strip the turbo.
Engine out.
The engine on the left is the 1372 out of the grey car and the one on the right is the one that came out of my first Uno (the black f reg).
Unfortunately it was sat outside for a year and wasn't covered up properly. Not my fault. Looking a bit worse for ware! Believe it or not but this is the engine block I end up using.
Started to strip.
Guts everywhere!
Cleaning.
Oversize pistons and block back from the machine shop.
Ah...some room around her!
Mk1 Turbo boot.
My turbo back from Turbo Technics.
Almost ready for rebuild.
A few of the naked shell.

And some more
In she goes
Mot time
So, its been a year'ish now since the car has been finished.
Here is the strip down of my Uno box and fitting of the Quaife LSD late last year.
Sorry for the fuzzy pics
All clean and going back together
Diff preload shims
Shim in place
Diff bearing backing plate
Checking the preload
Here are a few of my second hillclimb. This was before my LSD was fitted.
That's all for tonight! Hope you liked the photos.

Re: Sprint/Hillclimb/Road Car
is that the standard brake servo and master cylinder? how was the pedal travel with the brembos?
did you have to roll the rear arches to get the tyres to not scrub?
nice car,

nice car,
Yes its all standard and the pedal travel is no different from before the brembos. They work a treat. The discs and pads have only done a couple of thou miles so may not be so good when the pads are worn and pots are out?..
Yes, they have scrubbed front and rear. I've cut the lip back on the front arches and want to cut the back too. The front is clear now and the back only scrubs if I let people in the back which is never. I might be selling the wheels and tyres soon.

Re: Sprint/Hillclimb/Road Car
Awesome liam! Loving the thread. Excellant build!
Loving seeing my old wheels again! And they were made for me by compomotive to fit nicely over the brembos. I still run brembos!
I run a standard UT master cylinder too on mine and its good!
Regards the wheels, ive gone for 195/40/16s now on my current compomotives. Scrubs alot less. Infact, ive only rolled the rear arches and slightly tapped the rear inner arch in at the bottom. Front arches i havent touched.
How u finding the Avo coilovers? Which length and rate springs are u running? The standard 9" 300lbs ones that come with them?
Its mint seeing an uno with the same make of wheel, brake and suspension setup!! :-)
Dunc

Re: Sprint/Hillclimb/Road Car
Hey Dunc
I'm moving away from the MO5's now as they are just to heavy for what I want.
Yeah the AVO's are working for me, although I'm thinking of going slightly lower and stiffer. When I bought mine I stipulated that I only wanted to drop it 35mm - would that be the 9'' springs you mentioned?
