miss fire
upon driving my newly purchased uno home it has developed a miss fire just coming off the motorway (luckily) the rev counter is under reading, and it sounds like a scooby with little power,
i did a compression test which showed good compression on all cylinders,
i replaced all 4 spark plugs and no difference has been made along with the dizzy cap and rotor arm,

Re: miss fire
Have you worked out what cylinder(s) is down?
Wild guess is blown head gasket between 2 and 3

Re: miss fire
its down on cylinder 2, i've removed the spark plug and cranked the engine over and with the ht lead connected there is no spark, i connected the lead from cylinder 1 and the spark plug lights,
i've compression tested all cylinders and they are showing 11 bar each
im going to go down to a motor factors tomorrow and see if i can pick up a new dizzy cap, rotor arm and a set of ht leads

Re: miss fire
No it's not sparking cylinder 2, I've done the tests on the ignition ecu as per the Haynes manual and 've got it down to the ignition coil

Re: miss fire
What does that book say about the coil managing to fire 134 but not 2?
Is the plug wet in no 2 cylinder?

Re: miss fire
cylinder 2 is wet but no spark, nothing wrong with plug or ht lead, i'm gonna try and get hold of a ignition coil and power module see if that sorts it, losing my patience with it a bit dont wanna have to break it

All 4 injectors pulse at the same time on the ut.robr33gts wrote:injectors ? is it sparking on all four now ?
Not sure on the coil - it's not like coil packs where there is an individual coil per plug.
Have you tried another spark ecu?

Re: miss fire
Silly question time but is the distributor cap sitting properly on it's base, it might be riding high on no.2 if not sitting properly.
Also have you checked for play in the distributor shaft bearing by moving the shaft from side to side.

Re: miss fire
I can't see why the spark would just break down on no'2 alone and run well on 1,3 & 4 once power enters the distributor cap unless it's not making contact with no.2's terminal inside the cap. Especially as you've already changed the cap, rotor arm, ht lead and plug already.
I've had this with a distributor cap i bought from a motor factors on my gf's VW Polo, pattern parts don't fit that well as they're roughly made to fit as many cars as possible.
