Dump valve// no dump valve// aftermarket dump valve// standard chatter?
yo peeps hopefully i make sense
i have a mk1 uno turbo which i boaght about 3-4 months ago yadyyuda ,
when i got the car i drove home and been to a few cruises/rallys ect been perfectly fine
whilst driving the car its been very nippy and pulling through all gears ect ect
and it still goes well now,
but as i have just changed the clutch i am getting rid of all niggles
whilest i was clambering around looking for stuff to tidy up, i thaught to my self what is that?
the big pipe is the pipe that goes from the air flow meter to the turbo
so i pull this strange looking thing out and find that its a bit of a hosepipe fitting,
so anyways im still clambering around and find this
i realise that the gold T thing thing is a bleed valve to make the turbo stronge or summin, so i rip that out because i want my turbo to last and i have no clue what they have set this thing to
my main concern is that my car has no dump valve atall so how is it dumping?
i have been driving this car over 300 miles and its been fine, how isit fine without a dumpvalve?
what i want is my car to be normal and reliable and sound nice , why is this hosepipe fitting blanking off this hole
what would you guys advise to do?
i want to make it all nice and strong i dont want odds and sods blocking holes lol

Re: Dump valve// no dump valve// aftermarket dump valve// standard chatter?
bleed valve is to turn up the boost, mk1 runs 0.6 bar standard
when fitting a dump valve that hole in the intake pipe is blocked off as the standard valve recirculates back into the intake,
you dont really need a dump valve, I've taken mine off there a bit old school and chavy lol
if yours is making a noise without a dump valve it will be the turbo stalling and air coming out of the air flow meter

Re: Dump valve// no dump valve// aftermarket dump valve// standard chatter?
the only noise i hear from the turbo is when i let off the throttle and its a nice chatter
but my main question is, why is that thing blocking off that hole whats meant to be there?
are you on facebook mate?

Re: Dump valve// no dump valve// aftermarket dump valve// standard chatter?
i would personally get a dump valve as i like the sound of them lol and a proper alloy blanking plug or two and blank both ends of as st1allstar says you dont need one a dump valve its all personal taste really the bleed valve should of been fine if you set it to 1.0 bar

Re: Dump valve// no dump valve// aftermarket dump valve// standard chatter?
i've just said mate the hole is blocked off because the standard valve re circulates air back into the intake, where as a dump valve vents to atmosphere,
someone has removed the standard valve (and blocked that hole off) and fitted a dump valve, however if you have no dump valve and no standard valve then that hole needs to be blocked off
yes im on facebook but hardly ever go on there, best place for advice is on here

Re: Dump valve// no dump valve// aftermarket dump valve// standard chatter?
if you have no dump valve at all you will probably have two holes blocked of one to the standard valve and one from as st1allstar says the one in the pic is where the standard valve goes

Re: Dump valve// no dump valve// aftermarket dump valve// standard chatter?
if i remember correct when it was on ebay the other side was blocked of with a blue bit of hose and a bit of what looked like broom handle this is where a after market dump valve would go but if you want witout a dump valve at all i would get a proper blanking plug for both sides

Re: Dump valve// no dump valve// aftermarket dump valve// standard chatter?
right i see, so what was the point of the original dumpvalve that came on the car when sold from new?
and without the dumpvalve where does the excess air go? out the air flow meter? thats strange isnt it lol?
and like you mate i dont like dumpvalves either they do seem a bit oldschool, i much prefer the chatter/wastegate noise

Re: Dump valve// no dump valve// aftermarket dump valve// standard chatter?
also sorry for keep asking questions but i have seen these on ebay
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BOV-Turbo-Dump-Valve-Alloy-Blanking-Plug-Bung-25mm-/290567740626?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item43a72fdcd2
do you know if that would be the correct size?

Find an original pipe and fit something like this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Forge-Motorsport-FMCL007P-Golf-Seat-Audi-1-8-turbo-recirculating-valve-dump-/161045694183?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item257f1246e7#ht_282wt_1399

Re: Dump valve// no dump valve// aftermarket dump valve// standard chatter?
that basiclly the same as the standard recurculating dump valve mate in standard form a pipe will run from the blocked of bit the one where the blue pipe is to that then that goes into where it was blocked of with the hose pipe end hope this helps

Re: Dump valve// no dump valve// aftermarket dump valve// standard chatter?
I would always run a dump valve on any turbo'd car - if you don't want the 'TSSSSCHHH' sound get a recirculating type, such as the eBay link posted above, that fits and operates in the same way as the original factory fitted unit rather than venting to atmosphere.

also that one looks a bit big for a 1.3 i mean thats probally ideal for summin like a skyline?

Re: Dump valve// no dump valve// aftermarket dump valve// standard chatter?
Car had a aftermarket dump valve when i sold it on. I think it was a forge diaphram type but someone may have taken it off as the spring goes weak over time causing it to leak on boost.
Never had a bleed valve on it either when i owned it. If set too high this would of helped wreck your clutch.
Does it still have a digital dash? I was going to fit a new aftermarket boost gauge as the standard gauge is 26 years old and might be reading incorrectly.
Try both types of dump valves recirc and atmospheric as there are loads of used ones out there. If you don't like them chuck them on ebay.
Loving the garden hose attachment mod, that's got to be good for another 20bhp

Re: Dump valve// no dump valve// aftermarket dump valve// standard chatter?
No such thing as wastegate chatter lol. Chatter is when ur throttle is shut the excess boost is being forced though ur turbo and stalling it. so your doing more damage! Wont be long and you be replacing turbo seals! Old school cars need old school dumpvalves!

Re: Dump valve// no dump valve// aftermarket dump valve// standard chatter?
You dont need a dump valve unless your running crazy boost. Loads of cars come out the factory with no recirculator fitted, RS Escort/Fiesta etc etc. I run one of my old Uno's for years without any valve and never broke the turbo.
