Evening all, good to be back!
Hello, most of you know me, or more likely..Tippex. The misbehaving pain in the ass that plagues road and track wherever she goes...
of course this sort of use causes a lot of pressure to come to bear on various components, which generally leads to one conclusion:
meanwhile, back at the ranch....
has turned into:
and is soon to dontae her engine to keep tippex going....
in other news the fleet has grown to include:
which also does track based silliness:
without the drama....
also on family duties:
not just a daddy wagon though:
bit of a theme developing here....hmmmm
previously on the fleet:
which can lead to days like:
yes the black Golf GTi was mine, as have been 12 odd Unos, a BMW e30 320i, a Nissan Bluebird, Peugeot 205GTi (the 1.9, of course), Datsun Sunny (the last of the RWD models).
Sure, not always wise choices, but from those of you who have followed the adventures, highs, lows, heartbreaks, terror and joy over the years on FF, TC and TI...it's always been commited!

Welcome aboard mate
Its been a while since i have seen any updates on tippex, its sounds like you have been having fun though!
Shame about the bottom end,but atleast you have the engine there from the red one to get it up an running again.

Re: Evening all, good to be back!
I must admit, the addition of j-lo (the tipo), has somewhat distracted me from Tippex, for most of the summer she was at a friends garage in the east of england being brought back to health and legality, mainly because i couldn't be arsed to get into another monkey poo flinging fight with her....
Her first run out at Prescott Hill put her right back into my good books with some cracking runs up the hill, blowing a bearing at Bedford not so good....
If she gets her act together in time, there's a chance of a return to spa and the ring this summer, even though i favour the bigger, heavier...better handling, Tipo.

Why do you think its done the bottom end?Just age or are you getting oil surge on track?
Not sure how well the uno sump is set up for high speed cornering tbh,but i did read of a kit car on tc doing the bottom end on track which he blamed on oil surge.
Might be worth looking into/modding your sump if you are still planning on doing track days?

there have been occassions in the past, notably gerrards at mallory park, where there has been a pressure drop on the oil gauge, but that was a sustained right hander, so i figured was normal. On this occasion was off the back straight at Bedford through a couple of corners, i really didn't notice the drop...until she went off like a bag of spanners....everyone at the pits, john and gary who came over later all confirmed a bearing...

Maybe worth looking into modding your sump then if you plan to do more track days.
I dont really know enough about it to give a true answer to how badly an uno suffers from oil surge, but if you are seeing a pressure drop around bends it would surgest there is indeed a risk of it happening again.
It will only get worse aswell the faster you go or if you start using track tyres.
I think there maybe some info on the guy croft site somewhere about baffled sumps so maybe worth trying to dig that out.
I would also consider over filling with oil on track untill you look into a sump, but by how much i dont know.
The evo lot do this as its also a problem on there cars.
It maybe completly unrelated and just due to age,but as you mention a pressure drop i would be looking into baffling the sump with the amount of track stuff you do.

Re: Evening all, good to be back!
After over a dozen trackdays, I was hoping to retire her from such duties. In this instance I think I didn't pay close enough attention to the pressure gauge, and paid the price....
Not so sure I want to take her back out trackside again, she is fun, but after last years trip to spa nd ring, where J-Lo proved to be so much faster and composed, i'm thinking retire her to fast road fun, and occasional looks of horror from bystanders when i roll into a show...

Re: Evening all, good to be back!
Meanwhile on the rebuild front, everything ha ground to a halt, for the next 2 months at least....reason? My lock up is being refurbed by the council, new door, roof etc, this meant a new home for tippex, and all the parts, which are currently piled into my home garage, and shed...so no chance of working on anything, even getting a toolkit takes ten minutes of fucking about....bonus though:
i'll have a choice of nice seating...
