Not put them on as yet as I've always thought they look odd being at a much higher level than the side stripes?!

Re: Mk1 Minter
I turned my attentions to the paint on the bonnet on Saturday - I noticed some time ago that the finish had a micro-orange peel look to it so wet-sanding & machine polishing was required.
No before picture unfortunately but this is after an hour with 2500 grit:
And after 3000 grit:
Part way through with Farecla G3 on a yellow hex pad:
It took 3 or 4 passes to get it to where I wanted before moving on to the next stage:
I refined with a pass with Sonus SFX-2 on an orange hex pad before finishing off by hand-applying AG Super Resin Polish:
Not perfect but a lot better than it was!

Re: Mk1 Minter
OK, onto the roof...it had plenty of orange-peel plus some sanding marks were evident under the paint that I feared I wouldn't be able to do anything about.
Before:
Couldn't capture the sanding marks but did get a shot of the orange-peel:
None-the-less I got stuck in with the same combo of wet-sanding 2500 grit then 3000 grit:
Thankfully with the paint being straight colour gloss I was able to get rid of the sanding marks
After a LOT of time with Farecla G3 on a yellow hex pad:
Refined with Sonus SFX-2 on an orange hex pad:
I then finished it off with hand-applied Autoglym Super Resin Polish.
The passenger side C pillar also needed the same process to deal with sanding marks under the paint...done:
After completing the roof I masked up the rest of the car so I could give the remaining panels a once-over with Sonus SFX-2 on an orange pad to get rid of minor swirls:
Finished with Super Resin again then a coat of Meguiars Show Car Glaze, followed by a coat of Harly Wax and topped off with Zaino Gran Finale and she was ready for The Retro Show. Most of you saw her there but for those who didn't:

Re: Mk1 Minter
Fast-forward a week to Sunday just gone and I took her to the Auto Italia/Summertime Classics show at Stanford Hall. I thought I'd try my luck in the Concours so after getting in touch with Phil Ward a few days before I was cleared to go straight into the Concours area upon arrival. Lots of compliments throughout the day and I spent ages talking to people. Didn't notice any judges wandering around but to my amazement and delight Phil Ward came over to see me at about 2:45pm to say I'd won 'Car of the Day'!! I had to join the back of the queue for the prize-giving ceremony and noted the value of the car in front of my compared to my little old Uno!!
Working my way around the driveway:
The PA guy talked to Phil about why my car had been chosen as 'Car of the Day':
Phil generously explained that despite the Uno Turbo being a great car and very popular in the 80's most were thrashed, trashed and long-gone, so it's a very rare car now, and to see one in as good a condition as mine all these years later is very unusual. He also described the engine bay as "exceptional" Coming from the editor of Auto Italia magazine that was one heck of a compliment and I was on cloud-nine
Collecting my trophy it was then my turn to talk to the PA guy:
One happy boy:
I had many many hours working on this project over the last two years, with some dark times along the way, and moments when I thought I'd never see the old girl on the road but days like Sunday make it all worthwhile and also verification that my efforts can cut the mustard up against many other fine restored cars.
I won't say what for now but there was a final spot of icing on the cake after getting my trophy...all will be revealed in due course

Re: Mk1 Minter
eBay - they were Firstline ones, search for FBK508 and you'll find them pretty cheap and most importantly the correct width for the mk1 turbost1allstar wrote:jas where did you get the rear hubs from?

All are new stainless steel jobbies, in some cases high-tensile ones I had made as special-order items.
Lots of little bags with labels is the way to go to avoid getting in a muddle!
