I will be coming along 'if' the UT is finished. There is a part of me though that doesn't want it to get finished because ive enjoyed the build so much I don't want it to end. Anyone else ever feel that way or is it just me:(

Me too...in fact given that mine started as a completely bare shell I felt somewhat reticent to bolt anything onto it as I'll probably never see it 'naked' again Crying or Very sad

I not sure if i could say i enjoyed it tbh,and even just thinking about i am not sure what pushed me along to do it.

God knows, could say maybe on a good day you maybe find it therapeutic, maybe Laughing
But on the other hand i have a real temper problem when working on my own cars, other people cars i am fine, but when my own car fooks me off i seem to take it personal Rolling Eyes .
The anger rises and then "it should not take this long to do this bloody job"creeps in and then i start getting even more hacked off which in turn is making the job harder for myself Neutral .
It gets to the point when you need to really walk away, but then in the back of my head its like if i walk away then its beat me Laughing Rolling Eyes .
Anyhow it normally ends with me either shouting at it in a very skyrim styley fus ro doh (but with different words Laughing )or some times i will just spontaneity punch it Evil or Very Mad what a tit Embarassed
It only on my own cars aswell, and almost always afterwards you just think "what a idiot"especially when you have broke or bent something while carrying out a hulk smash Laughing

So no i am not really sure if i did enjoy it Laughing

I think what pushed me along was memorys of my old car,and that in todays times a cheap to tax/insure and resonable to run car like the uno made perfect sence to me.
I am also not very keen on modern cars, they just dont do it for me,i also only really like turboed cars.

Performance to the pound is also important to me,and it also dont hurt your ego half as much in a lower cc car if you get out accelerated by something, not only a small engine but a 25 year old one aswell.
Its the other cars that need to watch out in truth though, as the uno has the abilty to dishearten alot of so called sports cars of this decade.

That proberly appealed as well tbh, being the underdog.just like the gtir is aswell really, being rare is also another reason to put the effort in.

Why i got so carryed away though god knows, maybe it was because my first uno was such a shitter and deep down i wanted a nice one, when restoring one its a nice feeling to know it will last, that proberly helped keep me going aswell.

Once you are done though you soon forget all the pain of the shitty jobs,or even the jobs you have done that may bug you at the time, once you have it running that all that matters and you just enjoy razzing it around.

In truth though i am still not done,i was only looking at my white car today while robbing the suspension from it thinking argh i still have got to do something with this.
It was nice to see it all uncovered again though Cool ,still needs alot of work to finish it though which i can say i am not look forward to at this moment in time, maybe next year...

Imo there still fun to drive, the feeling of speed in one of these is nothing like what you get from a modern car, still gets me buzzing every time.
Trouble is the power gremlins can soon set in and you always want more, but no a lightly tuned 1bar mk1 uno is fun imo.

Even back in the day when i was running my gtir i once went back to the uno,(gtir had gone pop Laughing )it was still great fun, took a while to get used to launching it of the line again though Laughing

I won't make Brooklands this year unfortunately, have too much on. It's an OK event, though having been for a number of years it gets a bit samey, so perhaps a break from it for me is a good thing.

Hakydan wrote:There is a part of me though that doesn't want it to get finished because ive enjoyed the build so much I don't want it to end. Anyone else ever feel that way or is it just me:(

Hmm, I do enjoy restoring old cars and get immense satisfaction taking some disgusting looking parts and making them look new again. I've spent so many years with drills + wire brushes, rust remover, paraffin, Gunk, Hammerite etc. that they're all a part of daily life for me! It is also nice to visually see the car/ vehicle take shape and be transformed from a pile of oily, rusty parts and faded paint to something much more presentable. However, sometimes snags are hit, things break when they shouldn't, trying to solve one problem, either creates another (or uncovers another) and it becomes a nightmare trying to find parts that are rare as rocking horse poo. Also, some projects take far, far longer than they should, such as a 2.8 V6 Cortina I've been building for the better part of 2 decades pale At that point they become frustrating when it seems the end is never in sight.

I do enjoy finishing a project as I build my vehicles to be DRIVEN! Then I get the satisfaction of all my work, and can feel just how much the modifications have transformed the vehicle making it much more fun to drive. I got this after lowering/ uprating the suspension in my 70SX, fitting a UT anti-roll bar, rebuilding the brakes and also fitting an X19 engine (85bhp). The car feels so much better to drive now and the handling is greatly improved, plus the extra 20bhp makes it into quite a rapid car. Is it finished? Nah, of course not. Like most old car projects, there's ALWAYS something that needs attending to, and there's always other parts awaiting refurbishing/ fitment. Forth Bridge syndrome I guess!
