arch rubbing

seeing as im fitting new plastic arch trims i want to stop the rear wheel arches from rubbing the tyres,

whats the best way to do this?

What wheels and what sized tyres have you got fitted Mark?

15" 7j wide 195/45/15

Hmm, I guess the only thing I can suggest is that if you have rear wheel spacers, take them off and see if you now have clearance on both inner and outer sides of the wheel/ tyre. If you don't have spacers, then you will need to fit narrower tyres. Or firm up the suspension more so the rear doesn't compress enough to catch (might bugger up the handling though). Or have the inner mounting faces of the wheels machined to change the ET/ offset.

Overall it sounds like an ET issue to me. Some of the other more experience UT owners will probably be able to shed more light on fitting 15" after-market alloys?

I run 195/40/16 with no rubbing at all.

My rear arches are very neatly rolled and then body sealer filled to make them super smooth and stop crap and water getting trapped in the folded over lip. I showed chas last week how id done them, he seemed impressed lol! Ive then trimmed the lip accordingly off the plastic bodykit arch to match.
I then hammered in the front part of the rear inner arch to stop the inside sidewall of the tyre from rubbing. I didnt hammer it in much. In fact, you cant even tell i have!

Front arches are untouched and i dont get rubbing.

Bare in mind my car is rock solid stiff on coilovers also!

cheers for that dunc, i dont get rubbing on the fronts or inside of the rears its just the lip of the arch which catchs the tyre, will have to give it a go of sorting them out

Dunc, you basically don't HAVE any rear suspension with your coil-overs being so hard!  

When is the last time you drove your car with 13" wheels Mark?

I think they drive and handle much better on standard rims

Maybe true...but they stop a hell of alot better with coupe brembos up front and 16s! Plus, 16s, yokos, coilovers, strut braces, poly bushes and an uprated eibach anti roll bar....it handles alright! It aint no 1.0 fire edition lol

No probs. I can get pics if u like? I do sound like im blowing my own trumpet here, but ive done such a neat job of rolling and especially seam sealing up the rolled over lip, it feels so smooth and even feels like it could have been like it from the factory!

I've never driven it with the standard 13's on

Dunc are you using the punto gt master cylinder? What's your pedal travel like?
