Work starts on markp38's mk1

Post by markp38 on Sun Apr 07, 2013 6:20 am

Started work on my black Mk1 today both wings are goosed and the bonnets pretty poor so all being replaced with new both inner wings needed attention

Cut out the rot

Utilise good metal from old wing to make repair panel

Weld new panel in

Primed and just needs a rub down and a coat of black

Tomorrow the other side pale

Hey Charlie,
nope boot seems fine and the numbers still there, didn't cut into that area, the bad bits left to do is the passenger sill and floor (im pretty sure i could get my head through once of the rust is cut out) rear wing arch passenger side looks pretty fishy as well.

Just finished most of the passenger side engine wall and wing mount today, another day and that will be the front finished.

Will post some more pics later im knackered now and put the car to bed.
Can you still buy the plastic rawl plugs for bolting the wing to?

Before

Cut out the crap

And replace metal. had to do it in three sections because of the amount of Rot and the curves of the panels

I ran out of time but managed to flatten the welds down and tidy the flange up better have added a coat of body filler just needs sanding down priming and a coat of black,
Will post the finished article next weekend.

Sorry

I tried but Im not a miracle worker, i was amazed just how bad the back end was, the side skirts had more structural strength than both sills and floors.
