Ben's uno 1.6 HF turbo project

Looking really great Minty:) The standard of these UT builds is certainly rising:)

Thanks Hakydan, there are some very nice unos about at the moment and would like to see them in the flesh.

The car looks amazing mate I'm thinking of going down the 1.6 hf engine route myself

Go for it Jay, there is an engine and gearbox on ebay now  
But with the engine you have I think I would keep that.

I've just brought it and gear box lol I'm gonna sell my engine heard the 1.6 hf can push better power when forged up

To cut a long story short.

At the end of June I put the uno in for the MOT and it failed not on much had to swop the ECU and clean some eaths as the fan didn't come on and the engine over heated.
So when all the jobs was done I then when back and it paas so got the tax and went for a drive happy days.

But on the Friday befor the retro show the uno broke down, Dad give me a tow home and we looked over the engine and turned out to be the fuel pump relay, so fitted a new one then it started  
I then went back to Mum & Dads to clean the uno for the retro show and on the way there it broke down again  
Dad towed me to his and set out to find out what was up this time. Spent all day Friday & Satarday with on luck.
On the tuseday a mate come over and had a look and in the end he adjusted the fpr and it started up, run like shit but it was running.
So new fuel pump was needed. I've now got a 044 bosch pump not fitted yet as I've stared over jobs on the uno, hoping to have it fitted in the week.

Not much has been done to the uno but i have fitted the new pump and i've also fitted a new fse fuel pressure regulator. I've set the fuel pressure and the engine is now running much better. I've also fitted a oil cooler and had some lines made to fit.
Lots of jobs to do and i'm hoping to have the uno back on the road in the next 3 or 4 mouths.

Not on the back but a bit on the front. I've not had seats or peolpe in the back since I've fitted the r888.
Whats your set up Mark?

i've got a set of federal 595 rs-r's on the front want to put a set on the rear too but the 195/45's rub on the back as it is, need to get rear arches sorted

Not done much to the uno this year as i spent alot of time last year up the work shop working on it.
But this is what i have done.

All new engine and gear box rubbers and filled to stop movement.

Uno is booked in for the MOT tomorrow if the wether is good.

Cancelled MOT as the wether was bad. Its booked in this Friday.
Drives well and go's well, will turn up the boost soon.  
Should go throw only done 90 miles.

Uno passed the MOT today but got some small jobs to do.
Going to be fitting a T3 turbo as the turbo on the engine is shot just need to go and pick it up from Dunc. Fingers crossed I will make the retro show in the uno

car is looking good, where did you get the new bodykit clips from? I can only seem to find them for mk2

Thanks Mark I got them from Fiat about 6 or 7 years ago now. Found them in a box in me garage last year.

little bit of an update, at the start of the year the uno was smoking at times then just after the mot it got bad, looked at the turbo and it had 3mm of play in it. I had all ready got a T3 turbo and a 2L manifold from Dunc so popped up to see him.
The uno is now running spot on now and have been enjoying it this summer. I did go up to Santa pod in September and did 5 runs and all went ok.
I need to setup the gear links better as i keep putting it into 5th. The boost was also a bit of a problem, having not set it up befor i went i had to do it there. I can only go to 12 ish PSI as thats all the map sensor will let me. The best time was 14.3919 @ 95.29 mph.
I'm now looking into fitting Omex 600 ECU over the winter.

I'm more then happy with that time as there is more to come from it. working on the turbo is well easy and so much better.

When the turbo was fitted I had to have a new 2 1/2" down pipe made. So I made the flange and went to Demand Engineering who then made the down pipe. Very happy with what they had done.

This winter I've decided to fit better brake calipers on the back of the uno. Removed from a Golf MK3 VR6.





Got a rebuild kit and also sprayed them with some caliper paint.







All fitted with new hub bearings.

are them vr6 calipers much better?

I've not tried them yet, but the calipers are a lot bigger.
